1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.

2. Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.

3. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 2-3 minutes, without browning.

4. Add the chopped tomatoes, tomato juice, sliced carrots, salt, pepper, and sugar.

5. Reduce heat to low, cover the pan, and simmer for 5 minutes.

6. Uncover and continue simmering over low heat, stirring occasionally, for another 5 minutes until the carrots are tender and the tomato mixture has thickened.

8. In a separate bowl, toss the cooked macaroni with the butter.
