    1. Put the potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat and simmer.

    2. After 10 minutes, add the drained garbanzo beans.

    3. Keep simmering until the potatoes pierce easily with a fork and are fully tender, approximately 20 minutes.

    4. Drain off the water and return the pot to the stove.

    5. Mash the potatoes and beans with a potato masher or hand mixer until combined.

    6. Mix in the milk, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and black pepper to taste.
