Instructions
- 1
1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
- 2
2. Brown the ground beef in a small amount of oil in a skillet, breaking it apart as it cooks, until fully cooked (160°F).
- 3
3. Combine the matzo meal, semolina, water, and salt in a mixing bowl until a dough forms.
- 4
4. Wet your hands and pinch off portions of dough about the size of a walnut. Flatten each piece into a small circle, place approximately 1 tablespoon of cooked beef in the center, then fold and seal the edges. Repeat until all dough and meat are used.
- 5
5. Heat a small amount of oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped garlic and cook until golden.
- 6
6. Stir in the scallions and Swiss chard, mixing well.
- 7
7. Continue cooking the vegetables for about 10 minutes.
- 8
8. Pour in enough water to cover the vegetables, increase heat to medium-high, and bring to a boil.
- 9
9. If using lemon juice, add it now, adjusting to taste.
- 10
10. Gently add the stuffed dough pieces to the boiling broth and simmer for 15 minutes until they cook through.
