Instructions

  1. 1

    1. Wash your hands with soap and water.

  2. 2

    2. Preheat your oven to 350°F and cover a rimmed baking sheet with foil.

  3. 3

    3. Drain the tofu and wrap the block in paper towels. Let it sit for about 5 minutes to remove excess moisture.

  4. 4

    4. While the tofu is draining, whisk together the soy sauce, minced garlic, minced ginger (if using), and vegetable oil in a small bowl.

  5. 5

    5. Cut the tofu into 1/2-inch-thick slices and arrange them on the prepared baking sheet.

  6. 6

    6. Pour the soy sauce mixture evenly over the tofu, then use a spatula to gently flip each slice and coat both sides with the sauce.

  7. 7

    7. Bake for 15 minutes until the tofu starts to brown lightly.

  8. 8

    8. Flip the slices over and bake for another 15 minutes until they are light golden brown and firm.

  9. 9

    9. Remove from the oven and serve hot. Use as a meat substitute or cut into smaller pieces to add to stir-fries, fried rice, soups, or salads.
