HIEH Recipe Clipper — Privacy Policy

What this extension does

The HIEH Recipe Clipper is a browser extension that extracts recipe data (ingredients, directions, servings) from the web page you are currently viewing and saves it to your HowIEatHealthy account at howieathealthy.com.

Data we collect

• Recipe content from the active tab: When you click “Clip This Recipe,” the extension reads structured recipe data (JSON-LD) from the current page. It does not read any other page content.
• Page URL: The URL of the page you clip from, stored as the recipe source for your reference.
• Authentication token: A per-user token stored locally in your browser to authenticate API requests to howieathealthy.com.

Data we do NOT collect

• Browsing history or activity on pages you do not clip
• Personal information beyond your HowIEatHealthy account email
• Cookies or tracking data from other websites
• Any data from tabs you do not actively clip

How we use your data

Clipped recipe data (ingredient names, quantities, directions) is sent to the HowIEatHealthy API and stored in your account. This data is used solely to populate your recipe library and calculate nutrition information.

Data storage & security

• Your authentication token is stored locally in your browser using the extension's storage API. It is never shared with third parties.
• All communication with howieathealthy.com occurs over HTTPS.
• Recipe data is stored in our Supabase-hosted database with row-level security ensuring only you can access your recipes.

Third-party services

The extension communicates only with howieathealthy.com (hosted on Vercel) and its Supabase database. No data is sent to any other third-party service. Ingredient lookups use the USDA FoodData Central database via our API.

Your rights

You can revoke the extension's access at any time by removing it from your browser or revoking your extension token in your account settings. You can delete your HowIEatHealthy account and all associated data at any time.
